How We Got Here

1979

Paramount Pools Ltd was founded by Keith Martin. Keith worked from home before eventually moving into a garden centre premises based in Hartley Wintney, Hampshire, supplying GRP panel pool kits to the pool trade.

1988

Keith’s son Steve Martin joined the company, working together to make the family-run business thrive.

1994

Paramount was introduced to Aquamatic Safety Covers based in Gilroy, California and by 1995 the first Aquamatic safety cover was installed locally.

1999

We’d sold over 100 and Aquamatic permitted Paramount to make the fabric material in the UK under license. A new 5000 sqft warehouse was erected to cater for supply and demand and the manufacturing license enabled us to reduce waiting times by 50%.

2001

We experienced the first of 200+ cover sales.

2008

Paramount relocated to Hook in Hampshire, taking over a 10,000 sqft warehouse to accommodate other products such as heat pumps, mosaic-tiled fibreglass pools, stainless steel pool fittings, pool lighting, solar heating and pool kits.

2013

Steve Martin was appointed the role of Managing Director.

2019

Steve’s son Lewis Martin joined the company and was appointed the role of Sales Assistant.

Our Team

Steve joined Paramount in 1988 having previously worked for a local pool builder since leaving school. His initial task was to set up and run a pool service scheme for end users. This was followed by working within the warehouse, packing and supplying goods for pool dealers. The arrival of the Aquamatic Safety Cover system in 1995 saw Steve take more of an office-based role taking on the responsibility of marketing and production. Steve recalls: “At the time, Aquamatic had no literature on their cover systems so I invested in a publication software and self-taught myself to produce and publish our own brochure and drawings. These publications, along with our digital marketing efforts, proved pivotal to the growth of Aquamatic as for the first time end-users could see the benefit of investing in a safety cover. A number of technical enhancements were also made to make the cover suit the UK market. “ Working closely alongside Keith, Steve was able to seek out alternative products suitable for the pool trade. In 2006, Steve introduced the first 12kW low budget heat pump for swimming pools, this resulted in working with different heat pump suppliers leading up to a million-dollar order book within three years. In 2009, Paramount was approached by Waterco PLC and have worked with them exclusively ever since. Forming relationships nationally and internationally resulted in the company dealing with suppliers from the USA, Italy, Canada, Malaysia, China, Lithuania and France. Dealing with such diverse suppliers has enabled Steve to change the structure of the company by shifting from low-end, low cost above ground pool type products to high-end stainless steel products, bespoke one-piece Tilestone pools and the hidden Aquamatic safety cover system.

Mark’s first experience with Paramount was back in 1995 as temporary driver and warehouse help throughout the holiday periods while studying Graphic Design at Derby University. Upon leaving in 1999, he was offered a full-time role, initially as service engineer and installer for the Aquamatic safety covers, which eventually led him onto managing the warehouse and overseeing the importation and distribution. Mark’s graphics and design knowledge also proved instrumental in developing various marketing avenues for the company including social media, Youtube and Website structuring. Now in his twenty-first year, Mark’s current position is acting Sales Director.

Darrell joined Paramount in 2004, bringing over ten years of warehouse and logistics experience from a variety of industries. Initially starting out in the warehouse packing and supplying goods for pool dealers, he was also put in charge of implementing health and safety procedures and fire risk assessments for the company. With the continued expansion of the company Darrell also took on other leading roles such as technical support for heat pumps, lighting systems and general pool supplies. Darrell is also responsible for logistics within Europe.
